Foie Gras Quality: Fine liver texture, evenly distributed fat, low cholesterol content, and a rich, mellow flavor.
Its appearance is distinctive: goslings are covered mostly in dark grey plumage, with lighter feathers on parts of the neck and belly; the beak and feet are brown, occasionally black, with a white tip at the beak's end. The legs are short and thick, and the head is round. Rare individuals may exhibit white patches or entirely light-yellow plumage. Adult geese have greyish-brown back feathers, nearly black on the nape and back of the neck. The chest is lighter, silvery-grey; the belly is even lighter, ranging from silvery-grey to white. 2. The Journey of Introduction to China
The introduction of the Landes goose to China progressed through three key stages:
(1) First Contact (1980): The French company Rougi presented 100 Landes goose hatching eggs to Songjiang, Shanghai, marking the beginning of China's foie gras experiments.
(2) Large-Scale Introduction (1991–1992): Sanli Goose Industry Co., Ltd. in Linqu, Shandong, introduced 3,000 commercial-generation Landes geese and established a breeding base. Linqu County, situated at the same latitude of 36°N as the Landes department and sharing similar climatic conditions, became the core production region of China's Landes goose industry.
(3) Localized Breeding (Post-2000): In November 2024, a project titled "Selective Breeding of New High-Quality, High-Efficiency, Stress-Resistant Foie Gras Goose Lines" was launched, led by Shandong Zunrun Sheng Luojie Food Co., Ltd. in cooperation with Qingdao Agricultural University, the Poultry Research Institute of the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shandong Agricultural University, and Shandong Jinxin Landes Goose Industry Co., Ltd. In May 2025, Shandong Zunrun Sheng Luojie Food Co., Ltd. imported 1,260 grandparent-generation (GP) Landes goose goslings from the French breeding company Grimaud. The breeding program is currently progressing steadily.

Industrial Core: The Landes goose is the foundational germplasm of the global foie gras industry, accounting for more than 85% of the world's total foie gras production. It is the only standard breed behind the foie gras in the "world's three great delicacies" (foie gras, truffle, and caviar).
Cultural Symbol: From a tribute to the French royal court to a modern high-end ingredient, the Landes goose has witnessed the evolution of foie gras from an aristocratic delicacy to a presence on the tables of ordinary diners, becoming a significant symbol of French culinary culture.
Economic Value: In Linqu, Shandong, the Landes goose industry has formed a complete industrial chain — from grandparent breeding and commercial goose farming to foie gras processing — with an annual output value exceeding RMB 8 billion, establishing it as a pillar industry for rural revitalization in the region.
