China's First Large-Scale Batch of French Grandparent-Generation Landes Goslings Takes Root at Sheng Luojie

At present, China has become the world’s largest producer and consumer of foie gras. Linqu County is the nation’s leading foie gras production base, with an annual output of 5 million Landes geese, over 5,000 tons of foie gras per year, and a production value approaching RMB 8 billion, thereby playing a vital role in rural revitalization and the restructuring of the livestock sector. However, since 2016, due to disease outbreaks and various other factors, China has not imported French Landes breeding geese for nearly eight years. During this period, domestic efforts have been limited to selective breeding of existing stock, leaving the foie gras industry grappling with pressing challenges such as declining breed performance, a high incidence of diseases, insufficient deep-processing capabilities, and inadequate supporting production technologies.

To ensure the quality of goslings, Shandong Zunrun Shengluo Jie Food Co., Ltd. carefully imported, on May 26, 2025, a total of 1,260 birds from four complementary lines—A, B, C, and D—of the world‑renowned French breeder, Crémo Breeding Co., Ltd. The French Crémo Landaise goose is globally recognized as a premier breed specifically bred for foie gras; it boasts pure genetic stock and outstanding foie gras performance. After fattening, the resulting foie gras exhibits a golden hue, a delicate texture, no sinew or impurities, and an intense, rich fat aroma, meeting international Grade A standards and commanding high market value. This breed also offers a distinct advantage in feed conversion ratio, with strong hepatic lipid deposition capacity; under comparable feed inputs, it delivers rapid weight gain, high yield rates, and lower feed consumption, yielding significantly improved farming profitability.

Following the introduction of breeding geese, the company adopted a precision‑farming approach, implementing scientifically sound feeding protocols and meticulous management throughout the entire production cycle. Through careful rearing, the birds’ growth performance has far exceeded expectations: B‑line hens average 12.7 jin, D‑line hens average 11.7 jin, A‑line ganders average 13.5 jin, and C‑line ganders average 12.9 jin.

Currently, the breeding geese have entered a stable laying phase, with an estimated annual egg production of approximately 60,000 eggs. To select the highest‑quality hatching eggs, the company implements rigorous culling and scientifically guided selection, retaining only those that meet quality standards and exhibit robust vitality, thereby ensuring a steady supply of premium hatching eggs for gosling production. Our company has finalized the average weight of A‑ and B‑line hatching eggs at 143 grams, and that of C‑ and D‑line hatching eggs at 148 grams; the eggs are uniformly shaped, with strong embryonic vigor, guaranteeing high hatchability.
